Hi, I have a new 642 I picked up a couple days ago. Now, I realize the clear-coat finish might require special care. SW tells me the finish is better than a couple years ago and that the issue is the use of ammonia. (Not to use it and it is in the manual I am told but have not looked yet for myself)

So, what do you guys recommend for solvents for this guy? I guess Birchwood has a polymer safe gunscrubber out now they state can be used on ANY firearm...and finish. Let me know, Thanks, :)

that the issue is the use of ammonia
Huh. Interesting; I was under the impression that you'd find ammonia only in a dedicated copper solvent like Sweet's 7.62.
Personally I'm fond of plain ole' CLP fro cleaning if I'm cleaning in a relatively short period of time after shooting. But I'd recommend M-Pro 7; non toxic, water soluble and even smells ok. Safe for all finishes and does a pretty good job.
I'm sure you'll get a myriad of other opinions here as well.
