I am relatively new to handguns of any sort, but more so to revolvers. I have Taurus Model 94 .22. I really enjoy it, but cleaning it is a pain in the rear. Okay, I bought a .22 boresnake and that helps a lot, but my problem is that the scoring on the front of the cylinder is very hard to get off. Now, I am a bit anal about my guns, and I like clean shiny surfaces. Is there an easy way to get the scoring cleanly off the cylinder?

You've simply got to learn to be less anal. Functionality is the most important thing to me. Accuracy runs a close second. Aesthetics are WAY down the line. I'd rather be hanging out with the family, reloading, etc., than worrying about every little piece of carbon on a gun.

But on a stainless gun, a lead-away cloth is good medicine.

Regards,

Stinger

Lead-Away cloth is excellent for removing carbon and lead fouling on the front face of the cylinder. It will also do a great job of removing the blueing, so only use on a stainless revolver.

For a blued finish you just have ot put up with a glaze of carbon. It should be thin enough that it doesn't interfere with proper functioning, but it isn't going a way completely.

This question seems to come up quite often, and assuming the gun is stainless then the answer is always lead away cloth. It's still not easy exactly, but with some work the cloth will do the job like a miracle.

Lead away clots are a fast, simple way to clean off the cylinder face.

I had a 94, and I agree, it was a pain to clean. In addition to Hoppes #9 and a boresnake, I used Breakfree CLP. Just spray it down the bore and the chambers and let sit for a while. Makes cleaning a whole lot easier!

Yeah, most of the time they can be found both at gun stores and the major chain sporting goods retailers like Dicks and Gander Mtn. here .. and whatever is in your area. That is IF you can find them when they aren't sold out. I usually buy a whole row off a hanger if I see them, and Ive known other who did the same. Sometimes you can find them in other stores as well, like hardware stores or maybe even wally world, because they aren't just for guns.
