I just picked up my lee turret head with rcbs 223 dies and noticed a lot of lube on the die mouth. I have had these for over 2yrs and never cleaned them. whats the proper way to clean these dies and get the lube out of there? there is also lube on the size button.

Most any solvent will work. Since my loading bench is also my gun cleaning/ smithing station, I usually grab a brush and cleaning solvent. After cleaning I cover the die with Renaissance wax.

I take them apart and go outside away from any sparks or flames and blow them out with a can of starting fluid (ether) ...

It will cut about any type crud out and clean up any oil ...

Blow out with air and re-oil them or they will rust as the ether gets all the oil protection off ...

It sounds like you may be using to much lube. Normally Imperial Sizing wax will last several cartridges. You can tell by resistance of the ram if more is needed.

But then again it's a good idea to clean the dies every so often.

Cleaning and stripping dies for me is like starting over. I use a towel on a dowel, my first choicer of color is white; when using white towels it does not take much time to determining when the die is clean.
