Hey guys,
I have a Pro Shot one piece cleaning rod, it's the older model with the silver handle. Yesterday while cleaning a gun the rod got stuck, so I gave it some taps with a rubber mallet. Now the handle doesn't want to rotate. I worked on it this morning and was able to get it looser, but when forward pressure is put on the rod it doesn't want to rotate. There is a hollow tube pin securing the handle. I contacted Pro Shot and they said that I couldn't fix it and I would have to buy a new one. Financially that is not an option right now. Does anyone have any suggestions or know how to remove the pin?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm moving this to Gunsmithing and Repairs, as your trying to get your cleaning rod repaired. I don't have that model, so can't help. :(

You'll have to drill out the roll pin so you can pull the handle off.
This shouldn't be too difficult.

I'm not sure what you'll be able to do even with the handle off, because you probably damaged either the groove in the rod, or the handle.

One option is to not worry about it. Handles don't "have" to rotate.
Some handles are sticky and don't rotate smoothly, so I just don't screw the brush or patch tip on tight.
With the brush or tip loose, they'll rotate smoothly, whether the handle does or not.
All you have to do is screw them back down near tight each time you pull the rod from the bore.

You can lightly thread a small machine screw into the pin to pull it out. It is actually in there fairly loosely. Once it is out you'll be able to pull the whole bearing assembly and rod out of the handle. With any luck you only knocked one of the bearing retaining clips loose.

Thanks for all the help guys. Apparently this roll pin is hardened, because I haven't been able to drill it out. I tried threading a small screw into the roll pin and pulling it out, but that didn't work either. I have managed to get it working more smoothly by injecting Kroil down through the pin and down the rod shaft and working the handle repeatedly. I guess I can live with it. Again thanks for the help and suggestions.

Yes, all roll pins are hardened.

It would be next to impossible to drill one out of an aluminum handle without ruining the handle.

Have you tried just driving it out with a small pin punch??

That's how they put it in.

The pin is in a blind hole, it can't be driven through the other side of the handle.

I've been through this before. Eyeball the spot opposite the roll pin and spot drill it so you can tap the pin out. Clean up the round bottom groove in the rod with some extrafine sandpaper. Apply some lube and put back together. It's a common problem with the Proshot rods.
