Today I took my Winchester 1300 20 gauge out of it's gun sock to do an inspection. I hadn't touched it in quite a while, and figured it couldn't hurt.
While I couldn't see anything unusual with my eyes alone, under a flashlight, I saw what looked to be light rust forming on the barrel, probably from tiny scratches from a time where I either used too harsh steel wool, or was too aggressive or something, or perhaps it's just from being used, whatever the case, lesson learned. The receiver was spotless and pristine however. I oiled it and put it back.
Needless to say, I also saw stuff under the ventilated ribbing. It can't really be reached with a normal cloth during oiling. What do you do to clean and maintain the surface underneath it?
