As I was reloading some trap loads today on my Grabber and spilled shot and powder 4 times. Now, does anyone have any suggestions on how to clean up the shot quickly and easily? It's a pain in the ass to try to pick up tiny beads off a concrete floor.

Thanks

Crush up some dog food and sprinkle it around. My dog licks it all up.

I kid... I kid...

There's this creepy guy in my neighborhood that vacuums for free. He does excellent work but he's a little too friendly with the kids.

First thing to do after you use your shop vac is mount your press in either a 1/2 sheet cookie sheet or a tray from a place like Burger King. The lip will contain the spills in one small area.

I have sucked up live and dead primers, powder, shot many times with no issues

just a caution on vacs and powder

About twenty years ago, Dean Grinnell wrote up a somewhat humorous essay on reloading, spilling powder, getting his wife's vacuum out, and ending up with (what he called) a rocket-powered vacuum he was chasing around the room.

I have a MEC 9000G also. Because I keep a pretty fair supply of trap loads on hand, I don't have to use it too often, and that's where the problem begins for me... :) I found that reviewing the stupid manual after not using the press for 6 months or so, prevented my innate stupidness when using the press. In other words, I managed to generally avoid those tendencies to do stuff that spread shot all over everywhere. It always reminds me of something I shouldn't do.

There's an awful lot of things going on when you press that handle down and there's invariably that time when a bad shell gets in there and you feel it start to crush... and you think.... "Do I let up on the handle and spread shot from here to eternity, or do I crush this one and keep it clean..... ?" It's a dilemma. :)

When the machine beats me, I go to the vac, like the guys above, but I use the handy "crevice tool" to concentrate suction in a smaller area, thus sucking up those tenacious little balls.

Thanks for the shop vac suggestion, I like to reuse the spilled shot so the vac would make it hard to that. As for the magnet idea, lead is not magnetic.

"lead is not magnetic."

That is why he suggested a lead magnet. Better double check, I think you may have also dropped your sense of humor as well...

Well, go back to bed, and when you feel better, buy a Shot Vac or hire that creepy guy Otto suggested. You aren't a youngster, are you, kostyanj?

Otto, did you ring my doorbell earlier this morning?

I guess it depends who you're comparing me to. I'm probably younger than most people on here.

Sorry, been sick in bed all day so not feeling very humorous =(
Well I was going to suggest the "shot" attachment for the Shop Vac available at all Home Depot and better reloading stores Nationwide.;)

Clean out the vac and suck it up. Whats gonna happen to the shot? Or go old school and use a broom and dust pan.:)

Hope you feel better.

use a dust pan with a lip on it. Then use a cookie sheet tilted at an angle with a cedit card the shot will roll to the bottom for reuse!!

I have plenty of those around. I never thought of that. I'll be sure to try that out

Wall mounted shop vac here....(works better than fly paper strips and lead magnets)
