Cleaning weapons after shooting corrosive ammo

Simple is enough...

Just clean the residue from the bore and chamber by whatever method works. No need to 'neutralize' the primer salts, you just want to remove them along with the powder residue from the bore and chamber. After cleaning, lightly oil the bore, chamber and metal surfaces. Steel will naturally rust over time even without primer salts. The primer salt residue only speeds up the natural process of rust. ;)

Heads Up!

Guys, I just got the latest copy of Gun Test Magazine and they had a test using several gun-protectants. S&W Premium is absolutely awesome. It even protected a steel bar from rain and SALT. It is a little pricey (4 0z. at $12.00) but if it works half as good as they reported it should be in every shooters cleaning kit.

I just boil a large pot of water and add dish washing liquid til its nice and soapy. Then I use scrub brushes that have long handles. Scrub everything down good and flush with hot water. Rubber dish washing gloves and a turkey baster are handy to have too.

This has worked on black powder rifles/pistols, AKs, SKS's, mosins, and PSL's.

I use windex first. Then clean as you normally would. If I don't have to time to fully strip I will clean with windex and then lightly oil. I made the mistake of leaving a Mosin in the trunk of my car overnight without doing anything. Last time I will ever do that.
