CLOSE RANGE GUNFIGHTING
Plus
Weapon Retention/Weapon Disarms

July 11-13, 2003 - Bishop, CA

This special course will focus on the close range interval where most actual gunfights occur, yet where most
organized shooting schools stop. We will focus on fighting within arm's length to 5 yards where gunfights really happen.

Friday we will begin with a skill check and a tune-up to refine existing skills and abilities and then move on to more advanced skills. Friday will include Gabe Suarez' famous lecture on the aftermath of a shooting (legal and tactical info from been-there-done-that experience).

Saturday will find us again at the range working on pro active and reactive gun handling as well as ultra-close quarters shooting, alternative sighting methods, and shooting on the move. Saturday will include a low light fighting skills segment in the evening, and a discussion of the CombativeMind and the Aftermath of a shooting.

Sunday morning we will learn several very easy to learn and retain, but brutally vicious weapon retention, weapon disarm, and alternative force techniques. Here you will learn what to do if an adversary tries to disarm you, or if you are surprised by a subject armed with a firearm. After breaking for lunch, we will complete the shooting portion of the class back at the range.

Sunday We will finish off the afternoon at the range with some ultra-close range in-your-face counters for unexpected close range assaults. These are based on real-world gunfights.

Mr. Suarez,

Some of the courses done in California by various trainers often require proof of CCW, or some other such thing.

These are quite difficult as most of us do not have a California CCW.

I imagine if any of us were to approach our local authorities for a letter of official "good guy" certfication to take a tactical shooting class, we might not be regarded so well.

I saw nothing that requires this on your site. Do you require such things?

Regards,

William Hamilton
USN Retired

Mr. Hamilton,

Thanks for your inquiry. I have all students fill out a release form and waiver. Part of that waiver has this:

"I hereby state that I am not now, nor have I ever been associated in any way with violent criminal activity and/or associated with any terrorist organizations. There is no legal reason preventing me from owning a firearm or from attending this course. Furthermore, I understand that the material presented in this course is for information purposes only."

That is all.

Thanks,

Gabe Suarez

Training in the high Sierras... very tempting!

Gabe: really appreciate you posting here. Wish you could join us more often here in Strategies and Tactics.
