I just bought 2 new CMC Shooting Star mags # 11111. I was disappointed with the finish on them and the "self tapping" Shaw baseplate screws. I didn't bother with them. But I wanted spare mags......

I DID have an issue with the mags that I don't have with my stock DW mags in my Sportsman. The CMC mags fed fine until the last round in each mag and that one would hang up before entering the chamber. Every time this would happen. I used MT gold bullets and Nosler JHP's. These are all my reloads. (I have never bought or fired a factory 10mm round.)

I got home and realized I should have checked that final round for bullet setback, but I neglected to do so. That's the only thing I could think of. But these reloads worked fine in my Glocks.

Anyone have any ideas what the issue may be or similar experiences?

Some thoughts:

- Disassemble the magazine and make sure the spring is oriented correctly - if not the follower will nose-dive when the tension on the spring lessens (when you get to the last round).

- Is the magazine traveling out of the well? Try tapping the magazine before the last two rounds to make sure it's seated and see if the last round will feed correctly - if so, something is making the mag come loose.

- Cycle some dummy (snap-cap) rounds through it. If they work fine, then it might be an ammo problem. If so, I'd return them for a mag with a polymer follower - the curve on a polymer follower will position the round better for feeding in a 10mm.

If it's anything other than #1, I would probably consider returning the magazines.

I also purchased 2 CMC mags and have been less than impressed. Yes, I have had similar issues with the last round failing to feed correctly. I am sticking with Wilson Combat Mags as I feel that they are the gold standard for 1911 mags.

Thanks for the responses. Interesting that I am not the only one with this issue.

I thought CMC mags were among the best. I was wrong.

I don't think they are bad, I just don't think they are the 'best'. For the range, they work. For SD I trust Wilson more.
