For an extra $25 the CMMG is way way worth it. I'd still buy the CMMG even if the Delton were $300.

How does he figure? I have ONLY heard good things from Del-Ton. I guess each company has its fanboys. The difference is $40 between the two. That's a pretty good amount.

I have 3 brand new CMMG AR's (M4) and all of them are good rifles. Well worth what I paid for them.

I have a kit rifle I built up from Delton parts a few years ago. Here again a good rifle well worth what I have in it.

Either way you can't go wrong. Both companies make fine products and stand behind them.

CMMG because of the barrel twist.

If you have no intentions of ever shooting heavy 70+gr bullets, I'd look at a Stag 2 from here: http://ar15sa.fatcow.com/store/page2.html. They include a rear BUIS too. S&H is included. I'd also recommend looking at the Daly Defense DM-4LE.

Are you kidding? What is it with people calling AR enthusiasts "fanboys." He really likes CMMG, so he's some degenerate brainwashed adolescent? Sounds like YOU are a fanboy. Besides, there is a difference between the two besides the price:

Del-ton's wait time is 1-2 days from ordering to shipping, not 1-2 weeks like it says on the website. That being said, the CMMG has a MPI'ed bolt, which makes it worth more because it has proper testing. You should ask them if their bolts have also been shot peened and heat treated; and ask Del-ton if they buy BCG's that have had any of the 3.

Saying things on the description like "proper front sight base" doesn't necessarily mean all the other companies don't use the proper FSB, but parkerizing under the gas block is a big plus, as it's easy to not do to save money in production but should be done to make the rifle more resistant to corrosion.

I vote CMMG, for higher quality parts, despite Del-ton's reputation.

Nothing fanboy about it. CMMG uses better steel, does better testing, and has excellent QC.

No one said Del-Ton sucked. The OP asked which is better. CMMG is better. But again, Del-Ton doesn't suck. Del-ton is good. CMMG is just a bit “gooder”. $40 better? IMHO,Yes. Unless the 1/7 is going to mess you over.

If you are plinking, save the $$. It won't matter 'casue you won't be stressing the machine beyond its limits.

If you want a gun that has more quality parts that will last a bit longer under stress, spend the $$.

Either way, things will break. The CMMG just hedges your bets with better material and testing. But break it will, eventually.

P.S. didn't vote 'cause these are apples and oranges. The barrel twist really makes them slightly different animals. Slightly.

The difference is $40 between the two.

Did you miss the part where the shipping for the CMMG upper is $0.01 and $15 for the Delton upper? That brings the difference after shipping to $25.

Also, thank you arthurcw for explaining the differences between the two.

If anybody would like to read up on the manufacturing differences between companies and what those features are, here's an excellent write up: http://m4carbine.net/showthread.php?t=6642

The difference between the two uppers isn't worth the money. Go with the Del Ton. They are a great company to buy from. My upper runs flawlessly.

Alright, I take back my fanboy remark and I apologize. Either way you look at it I guess, you're going to get a good rifle.

For the extra cash, the CMMG gets you:

1. An MPI barrel (not bolt) 1:7 chrome-lined 4150barrel with recessed target crown

2. Anodized M4 feed ramps

3. Shrouded Bolt-Carrier Group (no problems with AR15 hammer catching the firing pin collar and bending the firing pin retaining pin)

4. Parkerized under the FSB (eh... I had a Bushy that was unparkerized here and had been used in rain, sleet and snow. When I removed the FSB 10 years later it was still bright shiny steel with a little rust around the edges).

The Delton makes no mention of 2, 3 or 4 and no mention of MPI testing or type of steel in the 1:9 barrel.

Well, Del-ton does not say weather or not they do the four things Bart posted, which makes me think they don't. Are those extra things really needed? I don't know, but I'd rather have them than not.

It is $25 so it's not like a huge difference in cost. At the same time, if you don't have any problems with function, it should be a decision on brand name, right? If they both have the same accuracy potential, yes. At the same time, how can you tell how much accuracy potential each rifle has? I vote you get one of each. Problem solved.

I talked to Del-ton and they told me they use 4140 for the barrel.

Why is it that in the CMMG description in the first post, they say "steel reciever"? Is that a mistake, or do they really have steel recievers?

for the $15 (assuming the CMMG shipping really is $.01)....

I'd definately get the CMMG.

You don't need (want?) the 1x7 twist unless you're planning on hand loading bullets >69gr in weight.

But.....

CMMG has a VERY good reputation for quality (specific details noted by Mr. Roberts above)

I built a Del-Ton "middy" from their kit, and though I like a lot and am quite satisfied with, I can tell where some of the corners were cut.

do they really have steel recievers?

I think that should read "barrel"

I wouldn't worry about the parkerization uner the front sight base- overrated IMHO. What isn't overrated is having the correct FSB. The CMMG apparantly does but the Del-ton has the wrong FSB if it really is as listed a "Gas Block:Standard A2 Front Sight." All other things being equal, I'd go with the CMMG just for the reason that I won't have to spend another $20 to buy an extra tall front sight post to correct this inadequacy.

CMMG - A great company run by good people. Their rifles and accessories are first rate.

I have a buddy of mine, who's a cop, he had some work done on his AR by Ron Smith. One thing he had replaced was the barrel. Asking RS has advice he was told CMMG. Long story short, he had the CMMG barrel installed and really like it. It's a great shooter and the barrel is mil-spec all the way.
