As my previous thread stated, I've seen the light(weight) when it comes to gov't profile vs. HBAR uppers. To start with, I have a Del-Ton mid-length HBAR with my AR in A2 format. I've already decided that I'm getting a new upper, the decision is which.

Both barrels are 16" chrome lined with an A2 upper. Here are the pros/cons that I can come up with.

Del-Ton $522
-Pros
Familiar with company
M4 handguards
Collapsible buttstock

-Cons
Carbine length gas system (Don't like the look or short radius sights)

Rock River Arms $540
-Pros
Mid-length gas system

-Cons
Does not come with collapsible buttstock

The one other question I have is with buffers. Can I run a carbine gas system with a fixed buttstock buffer and likewise, can a mid-length gas system run with a collapsible buttstock? Dumb question maybe but its still important.

Yes, what 000 said. No issues with matching the buttstock to the upper.

Del-Ton makes nice stuff, but I think the mid-length gas system is a very good thing to have, so personally I would lean towards RRA in this case. FYI, Del-Ton's midlength upper with the "HBAR" is really more of a medium contour than a heavy and is not much heavier than an M4 profiled barrel.

At the range today, I held my A2 along with a DPMS M4Gery and there was a noticeable different in weight. They only differences where the M4Gery upper and collapsible buttstock vs. my 16" HBAR and A2 buttstock. It was very noticeable.

Not all "HBAR" barrels are the same weight, especially under the handguards. Also, an M4 telestock is lighter than an A2 stock. If you like a fixed stock, I highly recommend the ACE ARFX. Just trying to help you out.

Since I have a middy (ArmaLite) I had to vote for the RRA. Wouldn't be my first choice though, just my choice of those two.

I don't understand you said you were getting an upper but you are concerned about the stocks included. Are these rifle kits (everything but a lower reciever) you are talking about?

At that price you have to be talking about the rifle kit and not just the upper. That is close to what I paid for my middy kit from del-ton with the ACE ARFX stock.
I am currently thinking about pulling the trigger on a del-ton light weight kit with an A2 upper and the ACE ARUL stock. It is 9 ounces lighter than an A2 stock.
I do wish they would make a light weight middy. I would be all over that

I've been on order from RRA for that exact barrel since June. They haven't put out any "just barrel" deliveries since February, they're all getting allocated to complete uppers and rifles. So, if you attempt to order just the barrel, you're screwed, but if you're getting an upper, go for the RRA. I love my mid-length barrel already, I just want the chrome-lined lighter profile, but YMMV.
