I am in the process of replacing the beat up greasy Greek stock that came with my CMP 1903 Springfield. I have a CMP new manufacture stock from Boyd's, and I am realizing that there is more to this project than simply swaping the wood. The new stock comes with a brass bushing for the rear trigger guard screw, but little information as to its purpose, or how to properly install it. If not done correctly, I assume that the rifle will not be accurate, and the stock can split. Does anyone have some suggestions on how to properly install this stock? Thanks.

I don't know if the Boyd's is the same type as the one discussed below, but FYI you may want to read this:

I've read some feedback on the Boyd's 1903 stocks and it's been mostly positive, with the caveat that you have to make sure to relieve some material behind the rear tang or something or other so you don't split the stock.

But I'm no expert.... some smarter people will hopefully be along shortly.
