Currently the Service Grade rifle shows "now accepting applications". What does that mean?

As far as eligibility goes, Im a little confused. Im a veteran, a cop, a member of the DAV, and a firearms instructor. I meet the qualifications right? Or do I need to join one of the clubs?

In addition to the standard background check, CMP requires "membership in CMP-affiliated organization" and proof of "marksmanship or other firearm related activity." DAV is a CMP-affiliated organization. Past military service meets the marksmanship participation requirement. You will need to provide them written proof for these.

I love this part:

No proof of marksmanship is required if over age 60. Proof of club membership and citizenship is required for all ages. :)

One of these days I have to get to the Ohio location. Could make for a nice bike ride from here in Cleveland.

I was at the N. Ohio CMP store a few weeks back. Had never had any previous interactions with them and was really just curious to see what they had. I was told my Ohio CHL was sufficient proof of marksmanship activity and a quick form to join the Garands Collectors Association met the criteria to become eligible to purchase from the CMP (there was a "proof of citizenship" requirement, and I don't remember if my Ohio DL or CHL was used as proof)

I was on vacation, so I didn't buy a rifle but I did buy some Eley .22 ammo.

It wasn't at all like I'd expected. They had quite a few Garands in different conditions and several O3's. The showroom part wasn't any bigger than a typical gas station though, and ammo wasn't out on the shelves.
