OK - I've been offline a little lately but here's an update on the 1903 rifle.

I emailed CMP and got a response back the same day. They're mailing me a Fed Ex stamp so I can ship the rifle back and let them replace it.

On a related note, the garand I ordered was charged to my bank account 2 days ago. My dad will have his rifle for his b-day! (shhh- it's a secret)

CMP is now an A+ in my book

The CMP does every once in a very great while make a gaffe (the CMP folks ARE human)...but they WILL make it right, and very quickly.

Good to hear about the Garand arriving in time for Dad's b-day.

Just out of curiosity, is the Garand a US Service grade? And are you getting a HN 03?

and yes, I'm trading up for a high number model because I like to shoot rather than just look at my guns

But those early 03's are damn fine guns, and just right to look at. Shoulda taken some pics, and compared that to the HN you will get. Some of the early ones even had the markings in some sort of cursivey writing.

But yeah, shooting guns is a good thing too. I only have one non-shooter, and that is because it was an addon in a trade.

As for the service grade, you can't go wrong. Your dad oughta have a rifle he can be proud of. Just hope some Greek bozo didn't carve up the stock, but that should be the only problem, if there is any at all.

OK, CMP just went up another notch in my book.

I dropped my rifles off at the North store on Friday, was told they would be sent to Anniston Tuesday morning. I wake up this morning, and the rifles are here already. I dunno how they got from Ohio to Anniston to Michigan in three days, while taking some time to get a complete lube job and nwe (used) gas cylinders and oprods, but I am impressed.

I'm gonna hit the stocks with hot water and rags and then get the metal parts with break fluid (I paint plastic wargaming models so I have a lot. Don't ask.)
