Just got my E Flyer and CMP is selling AP .30-06 M2 BALL. Sounds like it may be going Fast.

LATEST CMP SALES NEWS:
*** DO NOT REPLY TO THIS EMAIL ADDRESS. THIS IS AN AUTOMATED ACCOUNT AND ANY REPLY WILL NOT BE READ ***
AP .30-06 M2 BALL: The .30-06 AP ammo that we now have available includes headstamps: AYR, SL, TW, and LC. Dates of manufacture vary from the 1940s to the 1950s. Most of the ammo is corrosive, but some may be non-corrosive. The ammo is packaged in 8 round M1 Garand enbloc clips, in bandoleers, in spam cans. Purchases of multiple cans will be shipped in what appear to be the original wooden crates (two spam cans per crate). Cans and crates will be selected luck of the draw as to the headstamp. 4C3006U202-192P. Single spam can (192 rounds). $60.00. S&H at $8.95 per can. CMP will not ship any AP ammo to Massachusetts, Washington D.C., Puerto Rico, or the Virgin Islands. The following states do have laws regarding AP ammo, but the laws are unclear as to whether or not they apply to .30-06 AP ammo, since this ammo was designed for use in a rifle and not in a handgun. Customers from these states should be aware that even though .30-06 AP may be currently sold in their states, there is a risk of arrest and prosecution for the possession of .30-06 AP, depending on how their local law enforcement officers interpret their state definition of "Armor Piercing or Restricted ammo". These states are: California, Illinois, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Michigan, Mississippi, Rhode Island, Tennessee, New York, New Jersey, Hawaii, and Nevada. Residents of these and all other states should check your state and local laws on ammunition sales before ordering. Even in states where state law does not prohibit AP, there may be cities within that state that prohibit or restrict possession of AP ammo. See the ammunition tab on Estore at https://estore.odcmp.com.

I ended up ordering one. All the extra money i had right now. I see some people on the CMP forum ordering 10 cans.

Anyone else going to order?

Well that's not surprising as AP has been selling for a buck a pop at gun shows for as long as I can remember. I ordered a can just for fun... may do some ballistic testing with it.

The North store sold out right in front of me.
Luckily I was there to buy .30 carbine ammo and an oiler, after gawking at Garands for a bit.

Call ahead if you're planning a pilgrimage to buy in person, I'd assume more might come in but I wouldn't count on it.

It was sold out by the time I got the email from the CMP. Luckily, a buddy of mine tipped me off about it the day before so I got in on the action.

Sold out. I did get two cans (it is non-corrosive, checked the lot number). Came in a really neat wooden box marked with flaming bombs and crossed Springfield Armory rifles. Everyone at the north store kept saying this was a once in a life time deal. Hopefully, lightning will strike twice. I would like to pick up a couple more cans. When I was there, there were guys buying ammo, but I really didn't think it was crazy. I did see someone pick up 6 cans, but who could blame him? He kept arguing with me that it was Greek. This stuff is American. M-2 AP. Really neat stuff.

Also when I was there, my father-in-law purchased an M1 Garand service special. It is complete minus the stock. The barrel and all parts associated with the rifle match. The barrel gaged at .5 muzzle and 1 at the throat. Barrel and receiver match (1955) Absolutely beautiful rifle. It had not been re-arsenaled. I had to kick him to purchase the ammo. Boy was he happy later.

Don't feel too bad... I had a few boxes of AP that I picked up in the 70s. None of it was particularly accurate - I still have 20 rounds of it. In a rifle that normally grouped quite well, the AP stuff was about 3"+ groups at 100 yards.

I did have some fun with it... it certainly does penetrate. I was shooting at some glavanized steel posts and I was able to dig the bullets out of the sand bank behind the posts. The jackets were completely stripped off the cores of course, but the cores were absolutely unscathed. Not a mark on them and they still had a needle-sharp point when I retrieved them after they punched through both sides of the posts. Wow, that was at least 30 years ago...

I orded one can Friday and 2 more cans Saturday night. I got my email friday and i read over at CMP it could take from Friday to sunday to send all the emails. Something about one or two sent out every second. Alot of complaining due to fact many got the email after it was allready sent.

Post from Orest

On Friday, 7 May, at approximately 3:00 PM we started the email update to our 91,000 sales update subscribers. The emails are set to go out one every two seconds, so it takes approximately 51 hours for all emails to be sent. How soon they are delivered to all email addresses also depends on the customer’s provider. The 51 hours is an ideal situation, when there is little other activity going on with the CMP servers (web visits, incoming emails, estore orders or logins, forum visits, etc.). Because of the large amount of this other activity, the outgoing emails have still not all been transmitted.

We had approximately 10,000 cans of the ammo available and expected it would last for 3-4 weeks. We underestimated the demand and probably seriously underpriced the ammo (which will not happen again). All of the AP ammo sold out in about 43 hours.

To put things in perspective, while the emails were going out, we received successful orders from approximately 8,000 customers in the first 36 hours. Each order resulted in another outgoing email from estore acknowledging receipt of the order. We have no way to tell how many customers tried to access estore during this time and were unsuccessful, but we estimate it was in the hundreds. We do know that there were at least another 1,000 customers who were successful in getting to estore who received the message that the club membership we had on file for them had expired. Many of these customers (in the hundreds) scanned in their club information and emailed it to CMP. Many of these scans were not compressed and the attachments were several megs. Some of the attachments were as large as 20 megs. Naturally, this slowed down everything even more, and at one point even crashed the email system for few hours.

Some of the emails were worked over the weekend, but hundreds still remain to be read and worked. It will probably take customer service a week to answer the emails already on hand. Of course, we expect all the phone lines to go into meltdown on Mon & Tue, so please be prepared for long waits if you call.

The AP ammo is sold out and we have no reason to expect more. We apologize for the hassle and inconvenience we caused this weekend. To reduce the impact the next time we have any type of release we suggest customers (in a few weeks) email us with updated club information if there is any doubt that we may not have the latest information. On our side, we will do a better job on the pricing.

Again, our apologies. Thanks for your support and understanding.

I placed an order for one can, reconsidered, then placed an order for two more. I may try some out just because I can, but I bought this primarily for a "rainy day" that I sincerely hope never comes, but I'm afraid it might.

I don't understand why so many people are scared of corrosive ammo. A friend of mine won't touch either. I've shot thousands of corrosive rounds, and if you clean properly it does absolutely no harm to your gun.

winter mix windshield washer fluid is good for cleaning after fireing corro-primed ammo. has alky in it (to keep it from freezing) and really cuts the crud. good for BP guns too. I have a small spray bottle I pour it into.
clean as normal after useing it of course.
