Can anyone give me an idea of how many M1's Garands and M1 carbines have been sold through the civilian marksmanship program since the origin of the program?

Thanks.

Before the CMP took over the program in '96 it was run under the DCM. Civilian sales date back to the mid 1950's.

The figure would easily run into the millions, but you'd be hard pressed to get an accurate figure. But why limit your guess to M1 rifles & carbines... don't forget the 1903 rifles, Krags, 1917's, rimfire rifles, etc, etc. Do drill rifles and receivers count too?

I was not aware of the DCM. What does that stand for?

The reason I asked just about M1's and M1 carbines only has to do with all the "weapons of war" b.s. that floats along in the media when talking about AR's and AK's. The M1's and M1 carbines are actual military surplus that made into the civilian market with the consent of the government. I'm just looking for the numbers to use as some talking points.

I left the 1903's, 1917's, Krags and such out because I was only looking for numbers on semi-autos.

Thanks for the input.
