Anybody else going to be there?

I have maybe 30 rounds through my Garand and a buddy from worl talked me into going. I barley know how to load 8 rounds into a clip, let alone 2 with the clip in the rifle. What's up with that anyway?

details? I'm in the Triangle...

Camp Butner is an old army installation in NC, near Raleigh/Durham. I think the NG does a few things there now, but not positive.

hey, as long as you had fun warming up that garand

Did someone show you how to cross the 2 rounds in the clip?

If you went & shot you are already ahead of most people. Nothing like a line of Garands being shot at the same time.

At least let us know what the course of fire was. You gotta have at least 1 high point you could brag on! Throw us some cursory details. What kind of sling? Did you use a shooting jacket?

At the matches I go to there is a Korean War Veteran that always shows up. Just seeing that guy out there is worth the drive time in itself.

Nothing real special to report. My Wrangler jeans, BVD tee shirt and Loctite Racing cap was my uniform of choice. Used my buddys Allied Van Lines moving blanket and the canvas sling that came on the Garand.

They issued us 40 rounds of Hornaday 30-06, 168 gr A-max ammo #81170.

Course of fire was 5 sighter rounds. 10 rounds slow fire from prone. 10 rounds rapid fire from standing to prone to start and and 10 rounds slow fire offhand standing.

My best shot was an "X" ring in the offhand standing slow fire.

This was one of those times that, once again, the shooting community out did itself. Everyone was helpful in one way or another. From the safety guy helping me adjust my sling to the ol grouch to my left that congradulated me on a "Fair first shoot".

Got to drink a beer with Gunny Ermie. Check out the Garands and Carbines the CMP brought along as well as the quality of the accessories they sell. Did manage to buy a case of HXP ball and a can of AP. Why I bought the AP I'm still not sure about.

That's it, a great day spent with great people and a couple new friends added to the email list.

Taliv..

Met a couple of guys from your club. Forgot their names but they were on target #39. They were also going to shoot some other matches today (Sun.) and tomorrow.

Woodsoup,
Thanks for the enhanced report. I have shot with just jeans, teeshirt and no mat.
An X standing is good and encouraging.

Highpower and F-Class are both great events, I honestly can't figure out which one I like better. You meet some good people there as well.

I'm a member of the club at Butner (North State Shooting Club).
I shot the pistol matches yesterday. I'll be attending the HighPower clinic on Wed. and will be shooting the EIC match on Sunday.
Always good folks at Butner.
