I have a bunch of those soft Speer 158gr. LSWCHP's. I like shooting them, but they seem to make a smokey mess and I'm not comfortable driving them too hard.It is unlikely any commercial bullet caster is making SWC-HP bullets.
The mold doesn't play well with automatic casting machines due to the separate nose punch needed to form the HP cavity.
The ones you do find from Speer & Hornady are swaged from soft lead, not cast.
And not coated either.

Very interesting.I make my own SWCHP bullets by swaging 125 gr. cast and lubed bullets on my Swag-o-Matic press. Of course they aren't powder coated, but they work for my needs. The only problem with them is my swaging die makes them .357" in diameter, so I add a gascheck when I swage them to prevent leading. It requires the SWC-HP nose punch, but I have a couple of those, so it's not really a problem.
Hope this helps.

Powder coat them yourself with the stuff from Harbor Freight. Folks here can tell you what to get and how to do it.I have a bunch of those soft Speer 158gr. LSWCHP's. I like shooting them, but they seem to make a smokey mess and I'm not comfortable driving them too hard.
What's the best way to remove the existing lube? I would imagine you would need a clean surface for the powder coating.Powder coat them yourself with the stuff from Harbor Freight. Folks here can tell you what to get and how to do it.
Easiest way to remove the wax lube is to boil them for a few minutes. What's the best way to remove the existing lube? I would imagine you would need a clean surface for the powder coating.
