Hey guys, I came across some older ammo, mostly 22 short, long and magnum, and most of these boxes are at least 45-50 years old.

I'm pretty sure some of these have collectible value, so I was wondering where I can get some information as to their value, as well as where to post them for sale. I don't see a section dedicated to ammunition.

If this is the wrong forum for this, please feel free to move it or direct me where i should post.

I have a meager ammo collection, I'd be interested in seeing what you have, maybe a box of each. Got photos?

For now, I'd like to get an idea of their value, but here are some photos:

1 Box - Western Super X in 22 Short (29 gr. plated RN)
1 Box - Western Super X in 22 LR (37 gr. plated HP)
2 Box - Winchester Super-Speed X in 22 WMR (40 gr. Jacketed HP)

1 Box - Remington Hi-Speed Kleanbore in 22 WMR (Lead FP)
1 Box - Same as above, but only partial box (31 rounds)
1 Box - CCI Mini-Mag in 22 LR (Plated RN)
1 Box - CCI Mini-Caps in 22 CB (Lead RN)
1 Box - Federal Hi-Power in 22 Short (Plated HP)

I also have several boxes of .22 VL caseless ammunition for the Daisy VL System rifles.

If you were down here in SoCal I'd be interested in buying some of it. Have you tried getting an appraisal or consignment at a Bay Area gun shop? Also try walking it at any gun show and you'll find a collectible cartridge buff that would buy all you have.

20 seconds of Google turned up Peninsula Guns:

Do some research on Gunbroker. It will take time but you can see what they've actually sold for.

There are a couple of stores withing shouting range from my work place (peninsula guns and Coyote Armory), and checked with both, but they're mostly into selling new tactical firearms, not collectible stuff.

As for GunBroker, I've checked and some of the prices are pretty crazy. For example someone is selling a box of 50 rounds of the 22 Gallery Spatter-Less for $175. Based on that my 250 round box should be about $875 !!

Another weird one, is people selling Webley .455 ammo by the cartridge for like $5.

I also found a couple of web sites listing collectible .22 ammo, with prices ranging from $20 to over $100 per box.

Anyway, I'm considering putting these up for sale here, or someone wants the whole package, I might work out a deal, I just have to figure out in which forum to sell them, and what prices to hang on them.

Thanks for the help.

ammo boxes

The first set of Western and Win boxes could be sold as shooters if they were stored properly, they were made 1962-1971. Any box with a Child Warning was made after March 1962 due to the Federal consumer products warning that magically made everything safe.
The 2 Remington WRF boxes were made 1947 to 1959. If they have nickel plated cases they were made 1947 till 1950. If they have bras cases they were made between 1950 to 1959--- Due to the Korean War's need for Nickel.
The Federal blue box was introduced in 1962 ( See the Child Warning) till 1967.
The CCI Mini-Mag I think was introduced in 1964. The CCI Mini-Caps were introduced in 1969.
The Remington Gallery box was the last box made for Gallery Shooting. The reason that the 50 count box costs so much is that there were not many made, and survived. So you do not multiple the 50 box value by 5 to get the worth of a 250 count box. Just like if you buy 100 primers for $4,50, a brick of 1000 does not cost $45.
All of the boxes could have collector value to a beginning collector. But you can not pay off the farm by selling them.
