Collection of calibers for all purposes

Not by any means a "complete" armory, but for me a "sufficient" armory would include the following:
  • 1 pump action shotgun in 12 gauge
  • 1 bolt action rifle in .308 or .30-06
  • 1 AR15 (preferably a handy carbine)
  • 1 pistol in 9mm, .40 cal, or .45 ACP (.45 preferred)
  • 1 accurate .22 LR which can be either a pistol or a rifle, whichever you prefer.
Our current household armory consists of:
  • 1 12 gauge pump action shotgun
  • 3 bolt action rifles in .308
  • 4 AR15s (2 CQB carbines, and 2 heavy barreled varmint rifles)
  • 13 pistols (.22LR x 2, .380 x 2, .38 Special x2, 9mm x 1, .40 S&W x 1, .44 magnum x 1, .45 ACP x 4)
It's a good start, but I can see a need to make some changes/additions. I'll probably swap out the .40 for either another 9mm or a another .45. I could use a second shotgun. I really want either an AR10 or an M1A. Can you really ever have too many 1911s? Plus, all my bolt rifles are in .308. I'd like one each in .223 and .30-06, plus maybe a heavy hitter like .338 Lapua Magnum. . . .

Sigh. . . .

It's an itch that just can't be truly and fully well scratched. :D

Definite collection there annoyed. I would say that most scenarios are covered.

Ed; there is a difference between WANTING and NEEDING. The purpose of the collection I mentioned was not because of WANT. I could add another handful of weapons that I WANT, but they wouldn't serve any purpose that isn't already being served by another weapon on the list.

I didn't mean for the question posed to be so difficult to understand. It really wasn't meant to be. Taking out FUN, WANT, etc... Think of EVERY possible scenario you can come up with; and tell me of a weapon that I DON'T have to "satisfactorily" handle that situation. I emphasize the word "SATISFACTORILY" because I don't want to debate that a 22lr can shoot an elk or kill a person. Yes, most weapons can kill just about anything, but concentrate on it's main purpose.

As for wanting, that is irrelevant to the purpose of this thread. There isn't a weapon that I can't afford or buy if I WANTED it. There are definitely better reasons to have a gun other than "I wanted it". You may WANT a ruger 10-22; but that may not be a good choice if you want to go elk hunting. You may WANT a 30-378; but that's not very good for turkey or pheasant hunting. It also sucks as a concealed weapon. Again; this thread was asked for determining any and all possibly scenarios and having weapons on hand to satisfy that scenario.

I believe that except for the multi-personal urban type defense rifle; e.g. Ak/AR style; most people agree that all scenarios are covered.

well, you have all the bases covered

so this is where you get into the niche, whether wheel guns, lever, semis, or pistols.

if your asking if you have a base missed, proably not, so three ways to expand

specialist guns, ie, hunting pistols, Long Range rifles, pocket pistols

Generalist guns, carbines, AK, AR etc.

collectible guns, ie collect the pistols of WWII, browning shotguns.

me, I'm thinking of starting a collections of 22s, the price is right, can get some interesting pieces without breaking the bank
