A few months ago my father went to an auction and bought some ammo and reloading components for me. After looking at them, I think there may be some collector value since most of its is old stuff. Here are some pictures.

3 full boxes of Winchester small rifle primers, 1 full box of Winchester large rifle primers, 1 full box of Remington #6 1/2 rifle primers and 1 partial (75) box of Remington # 6 1/2 rifle primers

4 full boxes of unprimed Winchester .222 brass

4 full boxes of Herter's .222 ammo (2 are still sealed with factory clear tape) and 1 box of 14 rounds Herter's .222 ammo

Does this stuff have any collectors value? Should I just shoot the ammo and use the components or try and sell the stuff at a gun show? Thanks for your help.

Edit: Sorry about the size of the pictures, I tried to make them smaller, I just don't know how.

There certainly are people that collect old ammo and boxes. It's not something you could make a lot of money selling, though.

Oh, I dunno...

...There are lots of people selling Herters stuff to collectors on eBay, and When my Granddad bought his M-71 .348 in 1941, he bought about 10 boxes of 250 gr cartridges. He used 1 each year, and when my brother inherited it, there were several boxes left. Collectors were paying $5.00 each for those cartridges at one time...

I've never heard of primers being collectible.

The Herters .22 ammo might be worth a few cents more than he paid for it.

I'm not looking to make a bunch of money with this stuff, I just wanted to know if it was worth more for collecting then for useing. FWIW I spent about $25 for everything pictured. The ammo alone being used for coyote control is worth more than what I paid. I'll most likely take this stuff to the next gun show and if I sell it, fine, if not that is ok too.

Sometimes even if some item is not particularly valuable, it can nonetheless be satisfying to pass it to someone who values it for whatever reason. I have sold stuff for small dollars to make another happy, even though I may have shook my head and smiled to myself after. I suppose others have wondered about some of the stuff I have bought, too !

Hey - I just happened to run across this web site the other night that I think just may be what you're looking for:

CartridgeCollectors.org

They have a bunch of great articles on cartridge and cartridge box collecting - check along the left column. They've got a forum accessible from the main page too.

Hey Remington did you get that stuff at the gun show in Belleville.

No, my father bought it at an auction along with some other stuff. I plan to go to the next gun show in Belleville and see if anyone wants it.
