Maybe movie theaters should have metal detectors and armed guards? I am not even joking..

Where do you draw the line? Should Walmart have metal detectors and armed guards? Any gathering of many people is a potential target for a nutjob like this guy. He could have hopped a fence at the state fair, went into a crowded restaurant, college classroom, church, or any other place where people gather.

I don't think anything should be done to theaters. Posting an armed guard on a movie theater entrance is just "security theater", just like the TSA at the airports.

I already think movie tickets are too expensive to be worth it. But that would make the average movie ticket, what... $48 or so?

but where did he get OC grenades from
I don't think it has been proven conclusively that he had OC grenades.

People in the theater describes it variously as making their eyes burn to smelling like fireworks.
I'm here to tell you OC doesn't just make your eyes burn and smell like fireworks smoke.

The full body armor he reportedly wore has now turned out to be nothing but a black nylon mag pouch vest & matching fashion accessories..

He was a doctoral student in Neuroscience.

Pretty sure he would have had enough chemistry classes by now to have mixed something up himself.

Just very very lucky it wasn't Sarin Nerve Gas.

On second thought - it is possible he got body armor from somewhere else, and the tac vest was just over the armor. Reports indicate he had several packages show up at his home.

Personally, I'm planning on eventually getting some armor, but for right now it's not a primary concern.

I find it amazing that the media is spending so much time focusing on his "body armor" or maybe lack thereof; who knows... hey guess what media: no one shot at him. At best, all it did was slow him down. It was completely, totally, immaterial to the situation.

Knowing how the media takes things out of context I don't think I'd judge the business owner on one five second clip. I'm certain this tragedy has wreaked enough hell on his business as is.

As far as the "tear gas", my money is on a couple smoke bombs left over from the 4th. I'm with RC on that one; if it was tear gas I'm pretty sure they wouldn't be wondering if it was tear gar.
