I had a good time shooting today at PGC. I ran a little late for the Geezer Squad but got to talk to the guys. About the time they had to leave, Member Lightload and I chanced to meet and got in a few rounds of wobble.

After two rounds we were joined by a couple other shooters, including Colonel Joe. These three are regulars.

The Colonel drives a sporty little Mercedes two seater, and word has it that there's no speedometer on the dash, just an Air Speed Indicator. He's passed me a few times on the Parkway, and I was over the limit when he did.

He shot his Kolar with the unsingle barrel and powdered most of his targets. He outshot all the rest of us.

In conversation between rounds, he mentioned celebrating his birthday recently. We offered best wishes and meant them.

Colonel Joe was born in 1919, a few months before my father.

He was a Command Pilot in WWII, flying B-17s at a time when B-17 crews had 60% casualties.

Per month.

After surviving that, he built and drove race cars, including Indy cars.

After a few more rounds of Wobble, I had to head home. As the Pony ran for home, I got to thinking.

I guess we're never too old to not need role models.....

Wow - 87 - reminds me Dave of one of the real old guys at my old skeet club. Similar age - only has one eye but can still hit em'!

I love spending time with these folks - many a tale to tell and also in many cases a wicked sense of humor.

Sad to say they are a dying breed and never to be replaced - we owe them so much too.

Love the ''air speed indicator'' :D

I used to watch him race at Road Atlanta when The Runoffs were still there. I am pleased te hear that he is still around. I've got him on tape in fact. Very cool.

Sounds like fun, Dave. Really looking forward to next semester having Fridays off.

Got out to PGC today, and shot with three guys who were buddies; lived in the District, two were from Georgia and one from Finland (all with the accents to match). Shot a couple rounds of trap with them and then they extended the invitation for me to follow them down to the skeet field.

Was pretty excited seeing as how I had never shot skeet before so I threw in my skeet tube and off we went. I would say I shot in the upper teens, which I was happy with, but more importantly we all had a great time.

Already looking forward to heading out there next weekend :)

Thanks, folks. Nice to know this struck home.

Colonel Joe is a good guy to listen to. He doesn't beat his drum, but he has lots of experiences and tons of wisdom.

P95, replaced? Not. Emulated? Certainly.

Steve, I miss mine also, but they're not that far away.

Mike, he raced everyplace. Glad you know him.

B5, looking forward to.
