I am looking into attending the Colorado School of Trades for gunsmithing. I have waded through all of the past threads on gunsmithing and have still not found any that give me any idea what type of quality they provide as far as curriculum goes. I would like to get some first hand information from people that have attended this school on what specific skills I can expect to learn. They say that they are the oldest gunsmithing school in the US so I guess they are doing something right. Any information from those that have attended would be very appreciated.

Thanks.

I looked into attending this course several years ago.
It is very heavy on basic machining, welding, metal heat treating and surface finishing, basic wood working and general gunsmithing services, drill and tap, surface preparation, barrel installation and sight work.
The two year course is far more involved in long gun rather than handgun work.

You can go as far as a four year Bachelor of Science Degree.
The basic course is a two year accredited Associate Degree.
You will create your own Mauser rifle as part of the Associate graduation requirement.

I didn't feel the course offered enough incentive for me to move to Trinidad for two years because I already have the basic skills and they offer no quick advance based on experience.
No matter your skill level you start from square one.

I should have attended the course twenty years ago when I got out of Service.

I think now, with your tools and books added in, the course will run about $8000.00 including lodging.
I'm too old to live in a dorm and eat cafeteria food three squares a day.

The gunsmith school at Trinidad...

is at Trinidad State Junior College in Trinidad CO. I was there, class of '64.....chris3
