Colt 1851 sheriff cal44 shooting bullets at 25m

Hello,

This is a Pietta which has been slighly modified :

- a new higher front sight has been dovetailed

- a SAA backstrap has been fitted and new grip homemade with german silver insert and Yellow Indian ink stain.

- plus some minor polishing

- the chambers were undersized and have been reamed to 451.

Some shooting, two hand hold with rest at 25 meters;

6 balls with medium load and 6 Lee bullets cap§ball 200grs with maximum load :

As you can see, this is a shooter !!

Bravo Pietta !!

Very nice, I like the engraving. I must say though, I imagine that it's a bitch to load that girl more than a few times with that slightly undersized loading lever.

I like what you did with your revolver. Did it origianlly come with 1860 grips? The inlay is a nice touch. Nice shooting also.

You can fit a "cheater bar" for the loading lever to make it easier to reload. Or dismount the cylinder and load on a table.

I cut an 1860 to 3" and tossed the lever in my kit. When I need to reload, I use a slip pin to mount the lever.

Nice shooting!

I wonder if you would consider moving up to .454 balls? You stated you reamed the chambers to .451 but are still using .451 balls. I would think you may experience ball creep unless you move to a larger ball that shaves a lead ring.

Testing Lee 45ACP 200grs bullet with medium load ( 2handshold with rest):

20gr BP, 10gr cornmeal and Lee bullet :

This load does not stress the frame and is accurate........
