Hi, I have a Colt 1908 25, and I purchased some new hard rubber grips. The grips fit fine, but the metal nut and knurl? stick out from the grip. Do I carefully file these down flush? and what works best for this to get a nice clean job. Thanks

I will try and get a picture up later.

Can you take the grips a gunshop and compare the thickness?

Maybe you can use a bottoming drill and deepen the hole. I'd hate to alter original factory parts.

Yea, I need to get a picture up, to help explain this. . The grips are beveled at the point where the bolt intersects the grips, so the nut and knurl/washer, are half in the grip and half out. I think I would need to file them flush to the grips, but want to do it so it looks factory finished.

here it is

This shows what I am talking about.

You need to countersink the holes deeper.

NOT file off the orginial bushings.

Never ever alter the OEM equipment if you can figure out any other way to avoid it.

The bushings are part of the old gun and were right to begin with.
If the new grips are right to begin with.

I just bought both the grips and hardware from Numrich. I am not sure there is that much material to take out to make the bushings flush, but will check.

All right.

If the bushing are aftermarket too, it's hard to tell what you need to do.

If there will be any threads left in the one, and any place for the screw head left in the other, file then off.

Numeric isn't known for sending you exact factory duplicates with their reproduction stuff.
You got a pair of generic bushings that need to be fit to the grips.

You are real lucky if you got a screw that fits the bushings.

Ah, wasn't aware of that. Well, I guess I will see what I can do to improve these, and go from there. Thanks.
