2 Quick Questions Please:

I have the opportunity to purchase a MINT Colt 1911 Officers MK IV - 45acp.
I have always wanted to own one of these beauties.

It is an All Original Series 80 with no modifications, Blued Steel Frame, Brown Checked Wood Grips, One Mag, Awesome Mint Condition.

Question 1: What is the range for pricing that would be reasonable for this piece? Please feel free to cite rationale if you choose.

Question 2: Are there any "skeletons in the closet" for this model Colt that I am unaware of? Please no Colt bashing here - just honest feedback please.

My thanks to you all In Advance for your input.

Yes WT - there are MANY threads around Many topics discussed here on THR - I guess we might as well close the doors now because everything has already been discussed. What A Crock!

I am looking for Current Pricing Information and A DISCUSSION OF OPINIONS.

Please - if you have nothing to contribute to a DISCUSSION - or find their content to be too repetitive for your taste - then please refrain from clicking on them.

I was looking for Intelligent Input, please.

If you really Have an Opinion, I would love to hear it!

Thank you for your support.

There's one in a local shop here, pretty much as you describe it, and its going for $535. Cant help you on the opinion though, other than I like Colts. :)

I've seen the Oacps from around $525-$700(+). A place to check out is gunbroker.com That might get you a general ballpark on price-to-condition/model. Personally I wouldn't spend over $600. <5.5 is more like my range. I'm also not afraid to pick up a "well used" gun either so long as the right parts are still up to par and just needs a little TLC. So, go with your comfort level on that.

I do have an Oacp. I picked up an Enhanced lower ($100ish) and rebuilt it, then picked up a new Colt slide ($100 steal). I had small parts as well as purchased some new items. I guess you could say it's not as cool as a "real" Oacp :p I had the S80 parts removed from the frame and installed a shim as my original Commander slide was a non80. I have experience ZERO trouble from not reinstalling the S80 parts. I prefer it that way as I'm use to the SA GI. It works for me.

Anyhow, they're a nice little pistol. I would suggest a beefier barrel bushing as well as a reverse recoil spring plug. On the original plug, the little tab has a bad rep for sheering off and rendering the gun inoperable. Or, you can just pick up a spare factory plug or two and keep them in your range bag. A reverse plug makes assembly a little tougher. Many folks also just do a whole recoil system from Brown, King's or Clark's. But I don't want to mess with the FLGR. I only replaced parts for the King's bushing and high grip beavertail. I might get a Clark's reverse plug as it is a drop in part and requires no modification to the slide. As it is after adding the larger bushing, I must reassemble the pistol 'the hard way' so I might as well add the stronger part. I have not shot te pistol yet after installing the beavertail. I look forward to seeing what difference it makes for handling.

I've attached a pic of my Oacp. You can see how thick the King's bushing is. I think eventually I'll get the gun professionally finished after I quit tinkering with it. Until then, home parking will keep everything in tact.

I paid $525 for my LNIB Colt Officers acp.

I probably have about 2000 rounds through mine and I cant ever recall having a malfunction of any sort.

Most of that was Winchester White Box 230gr FMJ, but I did put 500rds of Remington UMC 230gr JHP's through it before I put it in my carry rotation.

Anyway I have absolutely no problem recominding them to other folks based on the positive experiances that I have had with mine.

1981 Officers ACP

I picked up my '81 Officers in '93 or '94 for about $375 at a pawn shop (if memory is serving me correctly this morning). It had been a complete PITA and unreliable POS since I got it, but I loved shooting the little blaster. I got 1911Tuner to look it over, and after 2-3 trips to North Carolina, it is running a whole lot better now. He found several things wrong with it from the factory, but was able to correct practically all of them. The thing had all sorts of FTF and FTE, and an incorrectly cut extractor channel seems to be my sole remaining issue. I still have a few FTE, but at no where near the frequency that they were in the past, and I'm starting to fine-tune my shooting to determine just what is causing them. All my FTF issues have been cured. If I had the money, I'd buy another, but I'd get a stainless version, as I now have a matte-black finish one. I think a Commander will probably be my next one, though. It's also been said that recoil springs should be changed out on the Officers every 500-1000 rounds, but some people go longer.

To check on current asking prices, you may want to go to www.gunbroker.com and www.gunsamerica.com . I want to say that blued and matte ones go in the $500-$650 range and stainless about $100 more ($600-$750). I hope this helps.

Had one - bought it new way back when. Nice piece that functioned well for a little while till the front site came off - sold it soon after.
I like the dovetailed sights MUCH better now.

550 tops, any more would be too much for me. I got mine for 418.00, in very good shape but had carry wear. A re-blue and new grips and I am very pleased.
