I have a Colt 1911 WWI Commemorative Slide. On the right side it says

1917 World War I Commemorative 1967

on the left side

There is an etching of a woods battle, a couplew of soliders are firing a Lewis gun and quite a few troops moving up.

Also on the back left side, right above the notch where the safety goes into when it's engaged there is the rampant colt in a circle.

Also I see no signs of this having even been fired. All the bluing is still in place on all surfaces.

Finally now my question :), should I go ahead and use this in making up a 1911 or is it worth more and I sell it and use the money toward either another 1911 or another slide and frame?

Thanks,

Ron

They made 7400 each of four different WW I commemoratives.
I doubt a loose commemorative slide is worth more than a plain one. Heck, for a good many years, the whole guns were selling for less than a standard model.

Thanks

Jim,

Thanks, thatwas sort of what I thought. Guess I'll use it to build a .45, although I'm not a fan of engraved slides, it is a new colt, and I already have it. Now to get a hold of a nice frame.
