Has anyone converted a Colt 20 round mag to hold just 5 rounds for hunting?

If so would you mind sharing how?

Thanks

Disassemble magazine, remove spring . Leave feed ramp in magazine. Hold upside down, insert 5 rounds. Insert pencil, push on bottom of feed ramp, mark length to magazine bottom, then cut/shape a piece of wood to fit minus a half inch.Trim spring to right tension, insert wood block, attach bottom of magazine. Might take a little adjusting but you get the idea.

Back in the mid 80s bought a Colt AR-15 new. It came with 20 round magazines that held 5 rounds. They had with a stamped steel part inside them that could be removed if you took them apart. You might try to find this part on a search.

Roadkill, Thanks for the info. I did think about a shotgun mag style "plug" but since it will be used for coyote hunting I didn't want it rattling around in the mag body.

"Maybe he wants it to look like a 20?"

I did get one of the 5 rounders that were on sale at Midway. As I was loading the 4th round the welds on the back of the mag split open like a banana. It will be going back to Midway next week.

I did notice that here wasn't much of the 5 rounder sticking out of the magwell to grab hold of when wearing gloves. Hence the use of the 20 rounder.

And before someone starts bashing the use the hallowed "Colt" mag, It is not a "REAL" colt, but a beat-up copy made by "Adventure Line MFG".

Thanks Guys

Keep the ideas comming
