Colt 38 Diamondback 4"

I purchased this DiamondBack back in the mid 70's. Fired about one box of shells through it then put it aside in my dresser drawer for home protection. I have both soft grips and original checked along with leather holster. It is a 38special with 4" barrel. Pristine condition. What is something like this worth?

Also have a Browning 22 LR semi-automatic breakdown in a shearling lined leather case purchased in 1973. It too is in pristine condition. It is a grade I model made in Belgium.

Interested in getting the new Beretta PX4 9mm . . .

Don't know about the Browning.

Around Texas, 1200 for a pristene Diamondback is low. I would have said $1400 or more if perfect.

I always just hate it when a post like this comes along...because it scares me! I have a colt Diamondback in .38 spec. I also have one in .22. I love 'em. I'm glad to see them when i get in my safe...and glad to shoot them any time. Its just that when I bought them, I never expected the value to go up like that! That's what bothers me...you feel like you should baby them!


I hope you change your mind. Keep both of your guns....just go buy the other one. I bet you have room for all three!

I paid $185 for my 4" D'back.

Now I see them for $500-$600 maybe $800-$1000 if truly pristine and with the box.

Those $1200-$1400 prices mentioned above sound high to me even for a Colt.

Asking and selling because by the time I get to the shop they are gone.

Shooters or "very nice" ones are in the sub-1000 but not buy much.

Saw a 95% 4" 38 on GunBroker last night getting near the end of the auction with no bids on a $469 starting price. Gun show price around here for a nearly perfect D'back would be around $800. Saw one recently priced at a grand but it was just about perfect. I've seen $500 on the guns showing some holster wear.

I guess prices vary by region but that seems like a lot of variance.

Yes they probably do. Here in Houston the best place to find them in Collector's and the last few I have seen there are high dollar guns. Several I would have bought were gone before I could even go and see them in person. Thus my prices.

I have been in the market on and off to get a perfect 4" nickeled diamondback to save. I am getting concerned about continuing to shoot my one which has seen a lot of miles over the years.
