a buddy has a colt .41 with about a 4 inch barrel, its really old looking, probably from 1890s maybe before, its blued, with colt on grip, he cant find ammo for it, what model is it? can he reload his brass with .40 caliber lead? where can he buy .41 cal ammo? whats it worth? any info is great

Maybe it's an old Colt Thunderer, they're not worth much. If he's interested I could give him $250.00 for it...

J/K

Probably worth way more than that.

You gotta give info to get info. DETAILED info. Pictures are good.
A Colt .41 might be a Single Action Army, an 1877 Thunderer, an 1878 DA Frontier, an 1889 Navy, a New Army, maybe even an Official Police.

Ammunition is available but expensive.

If it is really old, they will tell you not to shoot smokeless in it...

No, he cannot reload the brass with .40 lead. The .41 Long Colt uses either a "heel" type bullet like a big .22 of about .410" or a hollowbase .386" that depends on gas pressure expanding the bullet to fit the barrel. Buffalo Arms has one that is both heel and hollowbase .410" and then a hollowbase .386"

I'm looking for information on a Colt D.A. 41. There is the number 84 stamped on the gun. On the butt of the gun there is a stamp of 215
888.
Do you know what year it was manufactured, and what type of bullets does it shoot...41 or 41 long? Are these bullets available?

Maybe 1903 if I played your guessing game right with nothing but a caliber and a serial number to go on. Pictures for real ID.
Caliber is .41 Long Colt.
See my previous post for ammo.
