I am trying to determine the correct screw size (and source) to plug the 3 empty holes where the shroud was mounted on my circa 1977 Colt Agent. A gentleman sent me 6-40 threads but this is too large a diameter screw. So I assume I need a smaller diameter screw. I don't understand the nomenclature for the screw sizes. What would be the next logical smaller size screw to order?

Have you considered calling Colt Customer Service? They could give you that information and possibly send you the needed screws N/C. Just a thought.

Z Bill,

I have the shroud and you have the Colt...maybe you might wanna sell your Colt?

Thanks Saltydog and Loadedround

I will give Colt a call tomorrow - good idea. I missed the obvious choice....

Saltydog - it is a beauty. PM sent.

Colt did not have the information.

I did call Jack First Co. and they have the shroud screws size 5/40 and suggested that a 4/48 might serve as a filler screw but they did not have that size. Still a little confused on which size I need but do know the 6/40's are too large.

Here is a screw dimension chart I found.

Anyone have three 4/48 filler screws they don't need?

Thanks, Bill

The original Colt hammer shroud uses a 6-40 x.200 fillister head screw. The heads have to be filed or cut down in diameter.
To add temporary plugs order 6-40 x1/8" allen head set screws. Just add a dot of blue thread lock to keep them in. Your girlfriends nail polish will work also.
