Colt Anaconda 45 Colt

I hear that Colt once made Anacondas in 45 colt. About how many were made and how much would one cost in 99+% condition.

they were pretty common. they made them in .44 mag and 45 colt. both are accurate and superb pistols. I have a 6".44 mag and it shoots better than i do.

they go for about $800 on gunbroker for the .44, i would think that they would sell for the same in .45 colt.

I hardly ever see the .45 for sale, so I suspect that they would bring more than the .44, which I see fairly regularly.

Very few were made in .45 Colt compared to the .44 magnum. The .45 models generally run a couple of hundred dollars more. The .45 model was also made with a 4 inch barrel in very limited numbers and have quite a premium on it's price tag when you find one. I would guess that a 6 incher could easily be $1000+ and the 4 incher at $1500+ in excellent condition.

I don't have numbers, but there were more 44's produced than 45's. Both are great guns, but the 45's often suffer from throats that are too large. That degrades the accuracy.

Majic is right on the 4 inch 45's - very rare. There was only 500 produced. I had one in my hand when they first came out and put it back on the dealers shelf. I realized the error of my ways and went back the next day, but it was gone. The price at that time? $550. Now it's worth at least three times that amount :banghead:

Current edition of Blue Book lists $850.00 for 44 in 100%, $700.00 for 98%, add 10% for .45 colt. I usually find that Blue Book prices are lower than retail prices around here.

Jacketed bullets for some reason don't shoot that bad from the large throats (a well known condition of any Colt chambered in .45 Colt). Now if you size your lead bullets to fit the throats they become quite accurate other wise like said above they will only be so-so in the accuracy department. Use .454" bullets and you will have a lot better luck than with the .452" bullets.

I find that BB prices do seem to be at the lower end for a good many retail prices here too.

+1 to what Majic and Texas Colt said. Most Anacondas I see for sale are .44 magnums. I spotted one .45 Colt at a local shop a year ago and bought it. Haven't seen another one since.

Least expensive of four 45 anacondas on gunbroker right now is $1750 to open. Top end buy-it-now price is $2520.

Don't know how many they made but my serial number on my 45 reads MM938XX if that is any indication. I paid 485.00 for mine brand new when they first came out. Me thinks I am sitting pretty good. 8inch stainless looks pretty intimidating and feels excellent in your hand when shooting. You can really beef up your hand loads in this gun with the same pressures that the 44mag puts out and it's simply wonderful. Hogue makes a beautiful feeling black rubber grip that is slightly smaller that the factory grip also. Highly recommended for small to medium hand sizes.

About 10 years ago I saw a .45 Colt Custom Shop snub 2.5" Yes it had the paperwork to prove it came from the Colt shop. I should have bought it.
