Years ago I had the oportunity to purchase a Colt Anaconda for about 50% of blue book value. I had problems with it at first but the fix was easy and cheap ($10).

Now I wonder why no one ever mentions Colt firearms or makes any accesories for them (holsters etc). Everyone makes a plethora of items for S.W. but they all seem to ignore Colt. Would someone please explain this to me?

Well, I can think of a couple.

First many of the holsters made for S&W's will fit Colts. The speedloaders for the python will fit the L frame Smiths I believe.
Grips are and were made for Colts by all of the after market makers.

Second, in the last decade or maybe two, Colt has almost totally disapeared from the commercial market.
Used to be you could go into any gun shop and see rows of Colts, Smiths, Dan Wessons, Rugers, and others.
Now, IF you see a Colt it's usually a well used example.
I can't remember the last time I say a new Colt on the shelf.

It's a shame too. They used to make some really nice guns. They might still make some nice guns, but how can I tell if I don't see them?

I've been lamenting the demise of Colt for quite some time also, and fondly remember the good old days when the dealer's shelves were well stocked with Detective Specials, Stainless Pythons, the odd King Cobra, brand spanking new Anacondas, and so on. Now I see only the occasional Government Model variant - used, not new - and that's about it. Recently I found myself browsing through their 1995 catalog on a whim and fondly recalling those bygone days of Colt's glory. :(

I wonder how they even stay in business. All I can figure is that they must be depending solely upon military and police contracts for the M16 and M4 Carbine models, among others.

Oh well, at least I still have the various Colts I purchased back then to keep me company. They're all solid performers and well made. :)
