Bought a Colt 6520 about a year ago...due to work and lack of places to shoot its been a safe queen. Has a Brownells 30 rd mag with 25 rounds in it, but none in chamber. All of a sudden it is quite difficult to seat the magazine...is this a mag problem or a mag catch problem...any advice?

Remove all variables and repeat as necessary.

Empty the mag and try again.
Clear the weapon, disassemble, and check for obstructions.
Try another mag.

Are you having problems with more than one mag?? This will help narrow it down. Try taking the mags apart too and see that the follower/spring isn't getting jammed on something or twisted/bent. In other words, if something is stopping/jamming the follower then 25 rds. may still be treating your rifle like 30rds. due to the pressure. We use 30rd. mags in our patrol rifles but only load 25rds. for this reason too.

If the mag looks good then make sure you fully clean the mag catch/release. Make sure the catch isn't gummed up with crud and "slipping".

Make sure the catch (on the mag itself) isn't bent/worn and still holds a good square edge to catch on.

Clean the mag well better.

If you can remove all doubt with the mags then it may be a rifle/bolt or mag well problem. Hope this helps!!

Off the wall question, have you tried seating it with the bolt locked to the rear? Certain magazines won't seat well loaded on a closed chamber.
