I have the chance to pick-up a Colt AR15 model #6551 it is NIB. The problem is I don't know anything about this gun. Any help or info would help me make my decision. Thanks for the help!

Is it the original SP series with the triangle handguard or an A-2? What price is own it? Byron

Byron, I'm not sure which style it is:confused: I am looking at doing a trade for some work, so I will only have about $600 in the deal.

If you are satisfied that it is in the stated condition... Any Colt NIB is worth at least $600. The other way to look at it is: You work X number of hours for $600. If you were to take your pay in cash, taxes and other deductions reduce your actual pay to say $450. No way could you buy a Colt for $450. Look over the rifle. If you want it, do the job and GET THE RIFLE!!!!!

Did I mention that I think you should get the Rifle?:D

thanks for all the help! I know the price part seems like a great bargain, but what about the gun itself, any info on it or do you know of a website to find out somethings about this gun?

The 6551 was one of either two models. Preban was the ST 6551(Sporter Target) and the 1994 postban MT 6551 (Match Target). The Sporter was a 20" barrel in government profile(light under the handguards)--not an H-BAR--. It had an A2 flash hider, but the bayonet lug was removed.
The Match Target was the same 20" government profile barrel without the flash hider and bayonet lug.
The older Sporter barrel was chrome lined bore and chamber. The MT barrel was chrome lined bore and chamber up until 1999, then Colt eliminated the chrome bore and had chamber only chromed.
Both rifles have the 1/7 twist rate and are chambered for 5.56 NATO.
