Hey guys,

I just aquired a Colt Army 38, 6" barrel with Pearl grips Ser. 508xxx I don't know where to look up date of Mfg. I know it's after 1926 as it has that date on barrel. I would guess it is in good to fine condition as it has about 85-90% of blue and action is really tight. Barrel looks bright and shiny with no marks. Only problem is bottom left corner of Pearl grip is chipped. Did this model ever come from the factory with Pearl grips? It is also stamped with "Deringer." I am assuming that it was rebuilt by them at some time or other, is that correct?

Thanks in advance for any replys,

Harry

Here's where to check the serial number:

Your first move is to positively identify just WHICH model is it.
Colt made an Army Special, and a Colt Army & Navy model revolver.
I assume that this would be the Army Special which was made up until 1927, when it was renamed the Official Police.

Colt did supply pearl grips as a special order, but most were added after purchase.

I have no idea what "Deringer" would refer to, since the Deringer company went out of business in the 1800's.
