Which gun would be better for carry? The Kimber is a series 1. I have no experience with Colt, a lot of people on THR have had good luck with them.

My fiancée says the Colt looks pretty. :D It dosen't help when my life depends on the gun.

Colt should have a slightly longer slide, if that means anything special to you.

I currently own a CCO and it performs well. Had a Kimber Compact 1 and it was a great shooter. Both guns have their own little issues. But the Colt will always be a Colt.

I just received my CCO and put 250 assorted rounds through it. Not a problem. It balances beautifully. I have had one short barreled Kimber and it broke. Somehow the barrel link got mixed up and broke. I sold it as soon as it was returned. I wouldn't have one again.

I have the 5" Gunsite and a standard weight and light weight Commander. I have sold my Baer TR because I didn't like the balance either. So, I guess I'm a Colt fan when it comes to !(!!'s.

BTW, what does CCO stand for?

"Concealed Carry Officer's" if I'm correct. It's a good design, with the shorter grip for concealability, but the longer barrel for accuracy and reliability.

I could not find one at a decent price a couple of years back, so I went with the Kimber, and 1500 rounds later, I continue to be impressed. One stovepipe with reloads, and that's the only problem I've had with it. Recoil's a bit stout, but it's more accurate than I am, and it carries very easily.

Your carry gun has to be as close to 100% reliable as a gun can get. You might have better results with them, but I have both Colt and Kimber and neither is reliable enough to carry.

One thing to consider is that, down the road, the Colt will ALWAYS hold its value better than a Kimber...or a Springer. People will always pay the premium to have the little pony....

Now, having said that, I have had two Kimber Compacts (one lightweight, one stainless) that have been terrific. There are a few things about Kimber I don't care for (their grip safety and sights, for instance), but I don't own ANY stock guns, so that part doesn't matter too much. The CCO is a great concept but I think Colt is charging too much for their current Gunsite version. Still, it's a neat piece of work....

Not all people, I've seen used colts go for less than used kimbers that looked worse and sold faster with a higher price tag. However the Kimbers I'm refering to were series none, which hold their resale better than the series IIs. While on the suject of Kimber grip safeties, when you get used to them, anything else feels weird. I thought about changing mine, but decided not to when I realized how weird a SA loaded felt to me.

Anyway, back to the subject at hand, while I have three Kimbers that run flawlessly, I think I'd go for the CCO.
