I hate to admit that I don't remember when I got my DS, but I know it was made in 1976. It could stand refinishing, and the red insert that the previous owner had added to the front sight fell out long ago. I used to carry it quite a bit when I lived in another state. It either went as a backup for my Python or 1911A1, or sometimes all by itself, with a couple of HKS speedloaders.
I'm looking into ankle and/or "belly band" holsters to go back to having the DS as a regular part of my wardrobe.
My only worry with carrying the DS is rust. Over the past year i've switched over to Glocks for carry so i don't have to worry about the finish and corrosion.
Hi , I carry My Colt Det. Special in My front jeans pocket every time I'm out riding My Motorcycle. Switch off between the Colt and a CZ RAMI any other time . I also have the grips from Badger on My SS colt and they feel great. The little gun shoots great . Mine was manufactured in the 90's .......WVleo
That Black-T sounds good. It got a mention in this American Handgunner article, as well as a 2005 THR thread.
Along the lines of "get any mods done before you send it for refinishing," what might be done to have a little better sight alignment on a DS? I'm not looking to do a bunch of bullseye shooting with it, but to have something that gets lined up properly "right quick." That little notch on the rear of a DS may be snag-proof, but I don't think it could be made to fit even a white outline.
If Advantage Tactical ever gets around to making these for Colt revolvers, I'd love to put a set on my Python. Something similar for the DS would make me a happy shooter.
I have found that for that "quick" trip to the convenience store nothing is easier than just picking up my old Cobra, or S&W Bodyguard w/Barami Hip Grips on them, sliding either in my waistband and taking off.. If you can leave your shirt out of your pants, or have a jacket, coat, etc. either the Cobra or Bodyguard is well concealed and instantly accessable.
Barami's aren't the prettiest grips in town, but they function perfectly for what they were designed to do.
