I ran across a Colt Detective Special .38 snubby at the local pawn shop. I did the J.March rev. check and it appears to be a sound specimen. It is nickel and is in good condition. The grips appear to have suffered some abuse, chips and nicks, but otherwise the finish and mechanics seem fine. Asking price $349. Good, bad, maybe on the price?

Any idea what generation it is? Does it have the rod housing or not?

It's a good price either way provided timing is good. Replacement grips are available at Midway.

It does have a housing rod.

I called the pawn shop and told them to put it back I would be down after work and put some money down on it. Got it for $349 out the door.

Thanks for the input on this I appreciate it very much, also about the grips!

Grips (stocks) for the "short Colt D-frame" will fit your gun. I see them all the time on a certain auction site that begin with "e".

$349 Otd

Not at all a bad price, as we just sold an enclosed ejector rod Colt Cobra in
98% NRA condition (without box or docs), for $429. Perhaps, if it had been
lower in price I might have made it another "safe queen" in my stable of fine
firearms~! :scrutiny: :uhoh: ;)

I wouldn't worry too much about getting the wrong stocks/grips. The older long stocks are close to impossible to find these days.
