Whooowheee!

I just bought myself a beautiful 4" blued Colt Diamondback .38 special. I've wanted one for quite some time, but haven't been able to find one in excellent condition for the price I wanted to pay.

Well, a local gunsmith told me about an older gentleman who was selling an excellent condition Diamondback for $500. I met the gentleman this morning, and after carefully examining the Diamondback the only flaw I could find was a very, very tiny amount of bluing wear around the muzzle, and a few very small scratches on the upper left side of the factory grips. I gladly gave him the $500 for the Colt.

Then this gentleman showed me two absolutely beautiful Pythons. One was a 6" bright stainless model, and the other was a gorgeous 4" bright nickle model, both looked 99%. He wanted $1100 for the 6", and a $1000 for the 4". I told him that unfortunately I didn't have the cash right now for another revolver (Besides the Diamondback, I had already picked-up a 5" M60 S&W on friday). He told me he was going up north until september and if I still wanted one of the Pythons, we could do business when he returned. I sure wouldn't mind that 4" nickle Python.

Buying that Diamondback, and seeing those Pythons made me more excited than Michael Jackson at a boy scout jamboree, more excited than Rosie O'Donnell at a Dairy Queen grand opening, more excited than Michael Moore at Lenin's tomb, more excited than.....sorry, I'll stop, you'll get the picture. ;) :D

I know exactly how you feel. I bought a LNIB blue, 6 inch Python in April. I haven't seen anything made lately that has the fit, finish, and feel of older Colts and S&W's. Enjoy.

About 5 years ago I stopped at gun shop on my way to a gun show. They had a 4" .22 D'back in about 99% condition and I bought it for $325. I thought that was too much but I wanted to replace a similar gun that had been stolen years earlier, had cash in pocket, and was feeling weak.

So, I left the shop and went on down to the show. Walked around and around without finding anything I wanted. Then I spotted this 4" .38 D'back on a table near the door. Never considered buying one until I had the .22 in hand and started thinking a pair beats one of kind. Pawn shop dealer had it tagged at $225. I looked at the gun and he said make an offer. It showed wear down both sides of the barrel like it rode in a tight holster a lot. I threw $180 on the table and he grabbed it like hadn't seen cash in weeks.

The D frame Colts are cool. Shame that they don't make them anymore. I guess all Colt makes these days are the Python and the various 1911s?

I bought a 98% Diamondback in .22lr last year. That thing sat in my safe until last week when I gave it a good wringing-out. A few of the five-shot groups were inside 1" at 25 yds.

Not a bad price for the Diamondback, but too much for the Pythons. Shop around and you can get better deals.

Pythons may start back rolling out the factory early next year.

I know just how you feel nero. I found this .38 DB at a gunshow this past winter. It was laying in a pile of common revolvers and was filthy. I read the tag and it said $370.00 and I didn't even try to bargain with the man, just paid him. It cleaned up like brand new. $500.00 is still a good price, around here they go in the low $600.00s. And the .22s are out of sight.
