Has anyone here ever sent a history request to Colt in order to document what they have? If so, how is it? Is it worth the cost ($100 vs Roy Jinks' $30 for S&Ws)? I have two old Colt semi-automatic pistols which I am considering but it just seems so expensive.

It kinda depends on you.

What you get is a high-quality document-grade, frame-able paper that lists everything Colt knows about a particular gun.

This includes when made, finish/grips/barrel length/caliber, any custom or non-standard features, and who it was sold/shipped to and when.

I did one once for a 1911 pistol. Found it was sold to Old Sacramento Armory. I wanted to trace it from Old Sac Armory to Bob Chow Gunsmith.
Cost wasn't bad (something like $40 back then) but for a SAA, it's pricey.

If your guns are old enough, then it may be worth the $ as paperwork generally enhances the value of the gun.
