Colt frontier scout

I am considering purchasing A 1957 colt frontier scout with box papers and a nice hand tooled western style holster, Gun has an aluminum frame. Price is 450. Anything I should beware of with this gun. Any opinions of this gun would be apreciated, Thanks

Nothing special to watch out for.
These were very good quality revolvers, usually accurate.

1957 was the first year of production. The .22 Magnum convertable models weren't introduced until 1960, so yours IS NOT suitable for use with the .22 Magnum even if you find a Magnum cylinder.

I bought one of those brand new for I believe around $50.00 in 1959. Wish I'd kept it, but we all know how that story goes........anyway, the only issue I ever had with the piece was that I replaced a couple of cylinder locks. The part was a stamped piece that, at least in my case, wasn't terribly long lived. That said, I'd hate to guess just how much ammo I went thru with that gun as it was a constant hunting and plinking companion. Quite accurate too. Learned how to point shoot with that piece........ really easy to keep a tin can bouncing with.

My first one came in a cardboard box with the $59.95 price printed right on it, and that's what I paid.

Fun little gun; loved shooting it until I discovered the Colt Woodsman (I really didn't miss that slow extraction in the SA).

Thanks, I just put the gun on hold, I think it will work well to carry on horseback because of the light weight.The mild report of the 22 won't send my horse into a tailspin. There is something special about American made firearms made in the 1950s.

That gun should have an aluminum colored frame right? If it does it commands a slight premium over the plain Scouts of the next 10 years.

Yes Gordon that is exactly correct, funny Thing is there is a warning on the Colt paperwork not to fan the revolver, I guess people were watching a lot of westerns around that time. I just could not pass this gun up as I really am not seeing many Colts these days, Vince
