I was browsing a local shop the other day, and saw a used Gold Cup that looked to be stainless for only $600.00. Did Colt make a stainless Gold Cup or is it plated?
The only reason I didn't ask was, I was afraid that once I held it, it'd be all over, and I'd of bought it. I guess many, if not all here, know the feeling. I've been trying to save up to get an AR, but man, that Cup would sure look nice in my gun box. :D

If you're talking Series 80 Gold Cup, then yes, they certainly did make them in stainless. I know, because my dad has one in stainless. Down through the years you'll only see two silver finishes, stainless and nickel plated. Everything else will be aftermarket as far as I know. Usually, with an older gun, you can tell nickel plate by the fact that it is highly polished and nickel takes on a certain yellowish tinge as it ages. Once you seen it, you'll be able to discriminate an older nickel finish pretty easily. It's pretty attractive. Until you touch it. You will find Gold Cups with high polish factory stainless finishes also. I seen a few that were mirror finish, but definitely stainless. As I recall, my dad paid $750 for his 5 or so years ago when it was new. It's still unfired. I think he's afraid to shoot it (maybe afraid it will scratch).

Go back and give that pistol a home. You should be ashamed.

Redemption can only be obtained by crossing the 1000 round mark with it now.

Seriously. If you want it, get it. It's a deal at that price.

A stainless Gold Cup for 600? If that gun is in good condition without flaws it seems like a smoking deal. Haven't seen a Gold Cup for under 800 in quite a while.

Yeah, that's what I thought. I gave it a quick look over in the case, but I never held it it. I was afraid to hold it, because I might not be able to put it back down! I just may have to visit this guy again. He has a reputation for being high priced but I bought a super clean 6' S&W 66 for only $250.00. Coupled with this Colt, I think his prices on used guns are quite reasonable!
