Colt lightweight commander with +P ammo?

I'm picking up a new to me colt series 80 lightweight commander from my local ffl tomorrow. Obviously +P ammo is going to be harder on a weapon then standard pressure ammo. Would it be foolish to try running +P in an aluminum 1911? I want to see if gold dots will feed properly but all I have is 200 gr +P.
