Just came across a Colt Lightweight Commander, blued, in 38 Super. This is a Series 70. Gun is in excellent condition. What do you think it is worth?

Ooooooh....I've been looking for one of those. :D

Sweet gun. I wish Springfield made their Compact or Champion models in a lightweight .38 Super version, so I wouldn't have to hunt for a Colt high and low.

As for your question...around here, folks don't feel too ashamed asking on the north side of eight bills for a decent specimen.

$800 is a pretty common price for the "interesting" Series 70 commanders (9mm, .38 Super, etc.), though if you are lucky you CAN find them for less.

I could really dig a .38 Super commander, too. :D

It is a little more correct and proper to refer to a Commander without a firing pin lock (Series 80) as a pre-Series 80. Series 70 refers to the barrel bushing on Government Models so marked (in large and garish letters on the slide). It had springy fingers that gripped the barrel tighter for (so they thought at the time) improved accuracy. But the fingers were prone to breaking off. Commanders have always used a solid barrel bushing. That sounds like a nice gun, probably worth about $7-900 in excellent condition.

I've got a CLW in .38 Super that I bought back in '73. I'm figuring that as soon as I get myself to a CCW state that the CLW will start getting toted around a lot. :)
BTW, if things play out as I hope. I'll be heading to the Lone Star State not long after the first of the year. Yee Haw!

I saw a NIB one, in the box w/ papers, made in '53 at a local shop last year or the year before. It was marked $850 and they eventually sold it.

I almost bought it for a shooter, but decided to leave it for a collector.
