Colt Mustang .380 parts- sources?

I have a series 80 mustang, and would like to get rid of the plastic guide rod and upgrade some parts to make sure this thing lasts and lasts.

Ive seen people with upgraded triggers, guide rods, springs, etc...any good sources?

I've got one as well. Nice, well made little handguns. I found the guide rod and trigger at brownells. Be carefully when you remove the pin that retains the trigger, not only is it really easy to break the OE plastic trigger, the pin is small enought to be easily damaged.

Magazines turn up at gun shows fairly often around here and most I find are genuine Colt magazines. I suggest you look at the fake magazine sticky on this forum to arm yourself with the right information to spot "fake" Colt mags.

Years ago a number of upgraded parts were available for the Mustang, but sources are getting scarce. Here's a few suppliers still servicing this fine little pistol:

There is also a gentleman on the firingline.com web site that makes a dandy milled steel or aluminum trigger for the Mustang. He goes by the tag HisSoldier. Nice fella. Forty bucks.

In addition, most the new Sig238 internal parts are identical. I would not hesitate to swap out any of the internal Sig parts: the steel guide rod, springs, etc. and the trigger group, including the steel sear in lieu of the Colt sheet metal piece.

Here is a picture of the aluminum trigger, notice that there isnt much material around the pin hole. This is why the OE triggers break easily. The other picture is of my DIY checkering on my mustang. It's 24LPI, I didnt take it down to far as I didn't want it so sharp as to snag any clothing.

If they are still in business, try Scott, McDougall & Associates,7950 Redwood Drive, Cotati, CA 94931, (707) 795-2264. In 1996, They replaced my Pocketlite trigger, Guide Rod, recoil spring, rounded all edges (Pocket Carry Package) together with Novak front & rear sight set, all for about $400. Its worth a try.

Scott, Mcdougall and Assoc. ceased business after one of them died. However, Cylinder and Slide is offering both service, and some custom parts for the little beast.

I went to a metal guide rod and my reliable Mustang became unreliable I put the plastic back and again reliable I have 2 Mustangs and the plastic rod works fin also makes easier to reassemble Wolff has complete spring kits I have never had a problem with my triggers The extractor seem to be almost impossible to find
I found Mag release spring way to weak and wolff no better I got the cure from another Mustang owner and never looked back.

I really appreciate the posts guys. However, after hearing from an employee of my favorite gun shop that they sold a Mustang for $599, Ive been having second thoughts. I asked him if he had ever seen one in nickel finish (shiny), he said no and asked if I had one. His advice was to hold on to it.

I mean, I have the original box and everything. Plus I havent seen another in the shiny nickel finish either, and the gun is in pretty good shape (though obviously used). Id like to get another some day, as I am extremely accurate with it. Maybe Ill get a sig 238.
