Hey all,

First a little back story. I am going to be moving to a rougher part of the country here soon and I'm looking at getting a new pocket pistol. I have a number of larger ccw guns but thought a pocket pistol would be easiest to deal with. I am in the Air Force so I have to check in my pistols with Security Forces (military police). So now to my problem. I want a new colt mustang pocketlite, as I have always loved the way they look and function. My issue with them is that the frame is nickel plated. I can not touch nickel as my sweat destroys it within a few hours(turns black and eventually pits). So I need to find either some way around the nickel model or get a different gun (not a huge fan of the xsp polymer model and don't like the looks of the SIG p238).

I have seen a new cerakote'd mustang on gunbroker, but only that one, so I'm not sure if thats really an option. The sticker on the box from Colt had the same model number, but instead of nickel/stainless it read cerakote/stainless. So while that may be an option I have no way insuring that any pocketlite I order will be cerakote. Any ideas on how to get around my issue/find a cerakote model? Or should I just move on and get a different model?

Thanks,

Delta.

My gut reaction is that you should move on. Among your criteria which allowed you to select the Mustang you have also considered finish and durability as a major factor and found the gun wanting in this department. Find the next best model that scores better for you in all areas.

I guess if you are buying a gun based on how it looks, your just going to have to put up with its short comings.

I don't think Colt offers this gun with any options as far as coatings go, unless you send it to their Custom Shop. An alternative might be the Sig P238. Pretty much the EXACT same gun as the Mustang, and it comes in A LOT of different colors and coatings. Less expensive too.

You are exactly right. There are 21 different versions of the P238 which is easily the best shooting pocket 380 available.

If you like the Colt style surely you should be able to find a P238 in the 21 different versions offered that you like.

Check out the 21 versions of the P238 here.....

If you really have your heart set on the Colt, a gunsmith could easily sandblast it and refinish it with Cerakote or similar type finish. Otherwise my suggestion is to get a different .380 such as the Sig P238.

WAIT A SEC...

New Colt Mustang Pocketlite's are Aluminum frame\SS slide. Nickle is not an option on new production Mustangs.

No nickel on any of the colt pistols with pocketlite in the name. Pocketlite is colt speak for aluminum frame.

Depending on the composition of the stainless steel, nickel is part of the alloy. Unfortunately, firearms don't always say what type of stainless steel is used and just uses the general catch all term.
