I've been looking for a .45 carry pistol. I've researched both the Colt NEW Agent and the Kimber Ultra Carry II.

Colt has that dang gutter sight and doesn't seem to have accessories available. It's not even on the Colt web site to view the specs.

Kimber looks to be the same size and has traditional white dot sights. Nights sights and a laser grip is available right from Kimber.

Are there other 1911 .45 carry weapons with a full grip and 3" barrel?

Couple of thoughts for ya..

Can tell you that I have a Colt Defender 3" 45 and I'm not sure if the Colt Agent has the same grip size, but the Defenders grip is full, no pinkie mag needed and holds 7+1..

But I will say that a guy had a Kimber Ultra Carry II and let me fire a mag full, and IMO, it shot better, softer recoil, than my Defender..

With what I felt in difference, I would steer ya towards the Kimber, along with, as you have found out, Kimber has a lot of nice accessories that are usable like the laser grips, for one, which are great for 2 eyed point shooting or night use, as are mine on my Sig P229 CT 9mm..

One last thought for ya, and that is, I would strongly advise you to look for a 4" barreled 45 (minimum-length-barrel), for all around better accuracy, ammo choices, and more forgiving of timing/slide jams or bad-grip, or one hand, jams..

Springfield makes a nice 4" 1911, thin-gun, aluminum frame/lightweight model with real night sights, for the same money..

Good luck,

Ls

I had a Colt NEW Agent in my hand yesterday and all my fingers were on the grip. Felt real good. Thanks for the 4" barrel tip Lonestar. I've really been thinking on that subject. Same pistol and only 1" longer.

Colt, Springfield, Kimber...No particular order.

I have a Kimber CDP Ultra that is great, except for the FPS. When I bought it there was no Colt New Agent, and I would have had to replace the grip bushings and thin grips on the Springfield Micro. I was already going to replace the "wings" on either one.

Definately the Ultra Carry

I love my Ultra Carry, its been very reliable and accurate. I put some crimson trace grips on and its a real tack driver. The gun will eat anything you feed it but I prefer 200 gr hp. Less recoil.

Colt New Agent or if want regular sights the Defender . I have both and would never trade them for any Kimber . I have a Kimber no more wanted.
