Colt New Model 10mm Delta Elite

New from the SHOT show 2008, or so I've heard. So first off...

Who's gonna get one?

What do you think the price will be?

Should we wait after the initial shipments to see if they "get the kinks out"? Or do you think that they will just be a revised old model Delta Elite and be fine first go?

I've always been curious about the 10mm and already have all the 1911 stuff you could ask for...BUT...I don't have a 10mm.

I already have a 45 Super and a 460 Rowland, and of course 45 ACP but wouldn't mind adding another pony to the stable.

Does anyone know if they are changing it or just "bringing it back"?

Any other comments more than welcome.

The descriptions I have seen say the new DE has a bull barrel (no bushing of course) and a different recoil system.

I just hate bull barrels because of the added muzzle weight.

For me, this is a wait and see.

I'm not a fan of bull barrels either, but I'm a huge fan of 10mm. If I were a betting man I'd say odds are that I'll get one.

The new Delta Elite is configured with a bull barrel and yes I do plan to get one for myself.

I have decided that my birthday present to myself this year will be a 10mm 1911 of some sort, so hopefully the Delta will ship by July so that can be a choice. My current Delta is the gun I have owned the longest, since I turned 21. It would be neat to get a new one to shoot as I retired that one a while back pending the chance to have some custom work done. It was tuned nicely for the time, but could use some updating.

That's old news. Colt's QC began to slip in the late 60's, and hit rock bottom during the 90's. The ones made today are MUCH better on average.

What's a bull barrel?

It is a way to make a bushingless design. The end of the barrel is thickened and flared so the frame slides and mates with the barrel when locked up. Here is a picture of a Shuemann to give you an idea:

They are starting to be released. There is one for sale on Gunbroker now.
